If you have been hanging out with us, you probably already know that.
Goal Setting Tips
While most people know all about goals and why they need to set them, some of us are not too sure how to go about setting those goals. When you understand these goal setting tips, they will help you achieve the heights you want to attain this year.
Understand what goals are about
Goals are not wishes or vague whispers of what you desire. a goal is actually a specific thing (or state) you wish to achieve before a certain period. For example, it is not enough to say I want to lose weight. That is not a goal, it is a desire or a wish. To make it into a goal you would need to phrase it like this:
I am going to lose 3 kg a month for the next 4 months.
Now, that is a goal. To make it achievable, you can go ahead and state what you intend to do to make it happen. e.g.
- Take brisk 30 minute walks 3 mornings a week
- Substitute one meal a day with vegetables and fruits
- Take breakfast every morning
- Cut out soft drinks (soda) and pastries
When you make a definite statement and back it with a timeline, then break it into small achievable steps, you are in fact, setting a goal.
Understand your priorities
It is not enough to set goals if they are set arbitrarily. You should understand what is important to you and why you need to achieve what you are after. The best way to do this is to prioritize. Ask yourself…what is important to you?
The secret to successful goal setting is not to set too many. So you need to be sure that you focus on what is important to you.
Understand the person you are
Self knowledge is a very important part in setting goals that are attainable. Know thyself. Is this goal something you honestly believe you can achieve? Is it something that will add value to your life or are you just making a goal to live out someone else’s dream? Understand the sort of person you are and what works for you. Spend time in honest evaluation.
These goal setting tips will help you focus on what is important so that you can finally attain the heights you have always wanted to reach.
