I’ve been looking into relaxing resorts with pristine white beaches in Zanzibar and this place in Nungwi (a northern village in Zanzibar) keeps springing up. So I decided to look it up and it is truly amazing. Hidden in paradise, Hideaway of Nungwi is like a tropical Eden.
With it’s lush vegetation and private beaches, it really looks like the epitome of relaxation. The seas are so blue that you feel the stress gradually draining off you just from gazing at them. The rooms are simply luxurious and I know many people that will go just for the food alone.

What to do there
If you’re like me, you will probably curl up on the beach with a really good book. But I understand that not everyone can be like me and you might want to actually take part in the activities (God knows why).
If you’re into water sports, then you are in for the time of your life. There is so much you can do, from underwater diving in their clear blue seas, to snorkeling. You could also go wind surfing and kayaking and guess what? It’s all complimentary! There’s a water sports school for the newbies too.
Okay, this one might get me out as Zanzibar has a rich history and is home to Stone Town, which is a World Heritage site. Also, Sultan Seyyid Said’s 19th century palace is here and I would love to explore that as well.
For history or nature buffs, you are in for a treat. You can visit the Jozani forest reserve, Prison Island (home to giant turtles), and take a Safari Blue Tour. Lots of stuff to do.
If you are still looking for more activities, you won’t be disappointed. You can buy one of their safari packages and explore the wilds of East Africa.
What of kids?
I think what I most love about this dream destination is the way it makes provision for the entire family. So you really can have a family vacation here and the kids will enjoy themselves. They have a kid’s club and several activities planned to entertain your kids. I might go just for this alone. 🙂
Should you visit Hideaway of Nungwi?
I think you should and not just because it really is a beautiful place. The reviews are totally awesome. The resort is serene, but the staff are really nice and make your stay very comfortable. That is the real luxurious experience. It is as one visitor described, “heaven on earth.”
