President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria and ex-beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima made a bold declaration to keep her marriage, stating that she was not going to divorce her husband. With her marriage slated to take place between the 18th to 20th December, in her home town in Rivers State, it seems she is preparing her mind and firming her resolution to make her marriage work. She spoke to the Vanguard newspaper and these were her words:
“I will not divorce my husband. I love him, and I know I will continue to love him because he is my friend,”
This is definitely a bold statement, but we really can’t blame her taking into consideration the way divorce seems to have become the order of the day among entertainment stars in Nigeria. We talked about Ini Edo’s recent filing for divorce and there is also the divorce of Monalisa Chinda who is also from Rivers State. It is a good thing that she has made up her mind from the get go to make her marriage work.
We have already noted that no woman goes into marriage already planning for it not to work, at least, no normal Nigerian woman. Still, the mindset has a lot to account for. For Nollywood stars and other entertainment artists, it might seem a bit difficult because so much of their lives are in the limelight, but marriage is marriage whether you are a superstar or a shopkeeper and Naija men expect their women to be wives in the traditional sense to a certain degree and a woman would need a lot of determination to make a marriage work. We are glad to see that in Ms Fiberesima. Perhaps the fact that her groom to be is an old friend from university days would also help matters. According to her:
“I feel I have found a partner that is my best friend, my brother; someone I can relate with. Someone that understands and appreciates me. He’s someone I totally adore. I can’t wait to tie the knot in December.”
We wish you all the best Ibinabo.
