In the recently concluded 2016 African Blogger Awards, Nigeria’s Japheth Omojuwa has been named Best Twitter Personality. The African Blogger Awards is sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
When it comes to Twitter, most people in Nigeria (and in Africa) know of Japheth Omojuwa. He has earned a reputation as a Twitter Warrior and a well-known influencer. Of course, there are those that are not really comfortable with the way he uses controversy to get reactions out of people. However, love him or hate him, he is a master at what he does.
In 2015, he was named as one of the 50 Movers and Shakers of Africa in 2015 by Credit Suisse Buletin. This award is just one in a number of growing global nods for his use of social media in shining the light on issues; as well as influencing policies on the continent.
The African Blogger Awards was created to acknowledge top African talent among bloggers, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram influencers. According to their website:
These awards provide an opportunity for the most successful online influencers in Africa to be recognised for their hard work in growing and keeping their communities active and engaged. Our aim is to broaden the industry for bloggers in Africa and allow brands to see the value in blogging as a marketing platform.
Xtian Dela from Kenya as well as Japheth Omojuwa were both winners in the Twitter Personality in Africa. Other winners include Africa on the Rise from Nigeria and The Threaded Man from South Africa in the Best blog about Africa category. See the complete list of winners here.
Our congratulations go out to all those who distinguished themselves during the 2016 African Blogger Awards. We appreciate all who are doing their part in telling the African story.
