My Slow Cooker Experience

I once lived in a place where there was constant electricity. If you do not live in Nigeria (or some similar developing country), you might find it hard to comprehend. But for most people living in my country, electric light is not something that is taken for granted. Some people go days without light, unless they have their personal generating sets.

Anyway, back to my story. So I lived in this place where there was always light and a really good friend gifted me a slow cooker. I can’t even begin to explain to you how much easier it made my life. I could put a meal in it and go to bed. By the next morning, what I’m cooking would be done. If you have light, I’ll advice you to totally get one! If nothing else, you can try this beans and sausage recipe and who knows, you might get hooked on the slow cooker experience and try several more slow cooker recipes.

Slow Cooker Sausage and Beans

For those days when you have so much tidying up to do, this sausage and beans meal will save you. You can cook this in a stockpot for about 3 hours if you don’t have a slow cooker. This 7 ingredients meal is so comforting, delicious and goes perfectly well with bread.

Instructions
  1. You will have to slice the sausages and also chop the onions and pepper. Wash the beans and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, cook the sausage over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes or until lightly brown while stirring occasionally. Add the onions and green pepper before the sausage gets completely browned and cook until tender. Season with salt and pepper as you desire.
  3. Combine the crushed tomatoes, sausage-vegetable mixture, beans and water in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on high heat for about 4 hours or low heat for about 8 hours. You can adjust the water and cook time depending on the consistency and texture you want.
  4. Enjoy!
