Yu Yee Oil Review
Does your baby keep you up all night for no reason? Does she cry incessantly, even though there’s ‘nothing’ wrong with her? What does Yu Yee oil have to do with anything?
Well, keep reading and I’ll tell you how I got my little one to calm down and sleep. I’ll tell you the story of Yu Yee oil, that wonderful oil with almost magical properties.
My Personal Experience with Yu Yee Oil
Nine years ago, I walked into the pediatrician’s office and sat at the reception with a crowd of people waiting with their children to see a doctor. I had my oldest child with me, just a baby then.
After a few minutes of waiting, the little baby began to fuss. Then she started crying and wouldn’t stop. I tried everything possible, but she just won’t stop crying.
An Indian couple sat across from me, silently watching us. After a while, the woman stood up and walked up to me. “She’s crying because she’s got wind,” she said.
“Huh?” I looked at her in confusion. (I later found out that ‘wind’ is a common Asian term for gas or any internal discomfort. Mind you, we Africans have our own pet term, in Nigeria it’s called jedi jedi.
Back to my story…this kind woman explained to me that infants often cried when they had a lot of wind (gas) up their belly and that was when she told me about it. Yu Yee Oil.

What is it…Yu Yee Oil, I mean?
Yu Yee oil is a traditional Asian remedy used to relieve the symptoms of gas in infants. This oil is a composition of several natural oils which are distilled and combined in specific quantities to form this remedy. It uses mostly ingredients that have strong soothing properties and are used traditionally to cure indigestion and relieve aches and pains.
So, this oil is usually inside a slim glass bottle. That bottle normally has a light brown/orange colour. Actually Yu Yee oil comes in a kind of Asian looking oblong can
There is a strong peppermint aroma, which probably has something to do with the fact that Yu Yee oil contains peppermint oil as well as menthol. It is quite concentrated, therefore there can be a light burning sensation if it is brought too close to the eyes.

What is it supposed to do?
Yu Yee oil has several uses. While it isn’t a cure all, it is definitely something that should be in your First Aid Box because of how useful and handy it is. It is interesting to note that Yu Yee oil is not just for babies, but also works well on older kids and on adults.
According to the manufacturers, these are the listed benefits:
– Used for the relief of bloated stomach
– Easing upper & lower abdomen / stomach pain
– Yu Yee Oil is also an effective remedy for babies suffering from colic.
– To ease the pain from arthritis
– Headaches relief
– Heartburn relief
– Relief of joint and muscle pain
– For expelling trapped stomach gas / wind
Like I have already mentioned, Yu Yee oil serves myriad purposes. One I didn’t mention, which is a function I sort of discovered myself, is to soothe insect bites. It absolutely works for my children.

What’s in it?
Yu Yee oil is loaded with lots of goodness, seriously, it is a potion of several amazing ingredients. I will try as much as possible to give a short description of each of the ingredients so that you can know just exactly what is in each bottle.

Clove Oil:- Whether we know it or not, most of us have already been exposed to clove oil. It is a major ingredient in many toothpastes and is also used to give a nice flavour to cough and cold medication. Traditionally, it is used to give immediate relief from toothaches.
Clove oil is used to treat different types of aches, including toothache (which I’ve already mentione), headache and earache. It is good for stress relief, and is also used to cure indigestion, among many other things.
It is also used as an insect repellent.

Nutmeg Oil:- Nutmeg oil is another natural spice extract that is used in the treatment of several ailments, but most notably in the relief of pain. A recent study discovered that nutmeg oil posseses strong anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to alleviate chronic inflammatory pain.
In other words, it acts as a natural pain killer.
As a natural remedy, it is known to serve as a sedative. It also has relaxing, antiseptic and bactericidal properties. And if you are suffering from menstrual cramps, then this oil will ease your pain.
Menthol:- This is a mixture of a number of herbs; peppermint, eucalyptus and pennyroyal. Menthol is a compound that relieves stomach trouble.
Menthol has so many health benefits and is used as a traditional treatment for several ailments. It is used to treat gas, bloating, indigestion and colic. It is also used to treat aches, including headaches. It is also used to treat symptoms of cold, flu and respiratory congestion as well as irritable bowel syndrome.
Borneol, Cortex Cinnamoni:- For all its complicated sounding name, this is basically just a spice. Yes, I found that hard to believe also, it did sound like it was some sort of chemical. But yeah, it is a spice.
Borneol, Cortex Cinnamoni (I almost bit my tongue trying to say that), is a shrub found in Southeast Asia. The dried bark of the plant is used traditionally as a spice for food and also in cosmetics. It is used to treat coughs, flatulet dyspepsia, gripe, diahrrea and malaria.
Several studies have shown that it has analgesic, antibacterial, anti-diabetic, anti-fungal, antioxidant, antirheumatic, anti-thrombotic, and anti-tumor properties
Resina Calamus Draco:- This is also known as Dragon’s Blood and it is a resin (a red substance) that is extracted from the fruit of a tree.
It is used to treat diarrhea, stomach upset and other digestive tract problems. It is also used for skin diseases.

Light Liquid Paraffin- Light liquid paraffin, also known as liquid paraffin is a highly refined mineral oil that is often used in beauty products. However it is also used for medicinal purposes.
It is used for treatment of wounds and also for relief and prevention of constipation. While it can be used topically, it is also ingested and works as a laxative. So suffering from hard, painful stood? Liquid paraffin MAY be the answer. As always, you should hear from your doctor before you self-medicate.

Does Yu Yee Oil work, seriously?
I can say without a single doubt, that Yu Yee oil absolutely does work! It has worked wonders for me. Each time I get someone visiting from Asia, it is probably the only item I ask for.
I recently had my fourth baby and you have no idea how excited I was to see that I still had a bottle of Yu Yee oil among my stuff. I can’t imagine being without it. It has been helpful for all sorts including soothing my head when it begins to pound, soothing the itching when the kids get stung by an insect and calming a baby that is crying for no reason at all.
Personally, I swear by Yu Yee oil. It has worked wonders for me. I love it so much that everywhere I go, I speak about how amazing, wonderful, fantastic, how… (you can insert any superlative of your choice), Yu Yee oil is. The makers should be paying me considering how much I rave about it, (no, seriously).
From a medical perspective, any one of the oils contained in Yu Yee oil should do the trick for a colicky baby. According to some medical practitioners, gently massaging the tummy with any massage oil will calm your baby down. Peronally, I’ll just stick with Yu Yee.

How do I use it?
For newborn babies, take a drop or two of Yu Yee oil and put on the belly button (this is after the umbilical cord has fallen off and the place is healed). The Yu Yee bottle has a small opening so it doesn’t gush out.
Once you put the oil, give it a few minutes and the baby will start expelling gas.
As the child grows older, you can gently massage a few drops of the oil around the tummy area.
For insect bites, rub a few drops on the affected area.
Where can I get Yu Yee Oil?
Usually, I wait till there’s someone coming from Southeast Asia and then I order lots of it. But since this is not always possible – Southeast Asia is just not a region where you get a lot of Nigerians going to or coming from, unlike the UK or US for instance – I tend to be miserly about the way I use my Yu Yee oil.
HOWEVER, I just realized that you can order it from Amazon and since Amazon now delivers to Nigeria (I ordered something and got it, Yay!), this is just perfect.
DISCLAIMER: I have not ordered Yu Yee oil from Amazon so do so at your own ristk.
