40 is an important milestone and you should celebrate it because you will never be 40 again. But you already know that and that’s why you’re reading this post. If you are on a budget and you want to celebrate your birthday without going broke, there are many ways you can do that, and as we get suggestions, we’ll share them with you. For now though, here is one way to celebrate your 40th birthday.
Have a Thanksgiving Service
Start with a thanksgiving service at your Church or Mosque. If you attend a worship place that will agree to hold an early morning thanksgiving service for you on a week day, then go with that. It keeps the crowd down and only your nearest and dearest will attend.
(This idea was suggested by Oguntuase Opeyemi, a member of our Facebook community).
Book a Nice Restaurant
If you don’t want to go through the trouble of cooking and organizing a birthday bash, particularly if YOU are the celebrant, then get out of that by going to a nice restaurant several days before the D-day and making an arrangement with them. Tell them it’s your birthday and you would like to have dinner (or lunch) for a certain number of people. Don’t invite too many people or that defeats the idea of staying within budget; you can plan for 20 to 50 people.
The reason you need to go to the restaurant ahead of time is so that:
1. They can reserve the number of tables you’ll need for your guests.
2. You can plan the meal with them.
And this is the important part. Assuming that a plate of food costs 4,000 Naira at the fancy restaurant in your town and that’s where you want to eat, but your budget can’t handle that for 50 people, you can go to the manager and explain your predicament. Lots of restaurants managers/owners are very reasonable and they will work with you to trim down the meal so that it falls within your budget. This could even be half of what you would have paid originally. So if the meal came with 5 pieces of meat for instance, you could cut it down to 2 pieces. There are other areas you can cut out as well so that the meal falls within your budget.
This way, you can have a small crowd and get to relax and enjoy your birthday party, without paying a fortune in the process.
