Autumn is finally here, and often this is the season that everyone secretly loves. Of course, Summer is a wonderful time of the year. We get to enjoy the sunshine (most of the time) and bask in the warmth. We enjoy wearing looser fitted clothing and drinking and eating al fresco. However, while we often aren’t blessed with the best weather during the summer, Autumn is always a mixed bag. But there is so much we can look forward to when we enter into the Autumn.

While people may secretly love everything that I am about to mention below, many of us don’t shout about it. Thinking that being an advocate for Autumn some how makes you feel like a traitor to the popular seasons of Spring and Summer. That a love for a fresher feel in the air and getting excited for the up and coming event that is Christmas makes you negative in some way. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. I wanted to share with you some of the amazing things you can begin to look forward to now that Autumn is here, so that is you are feeling a little glum that the hot days and summer evenings are leaving us behind, you may feel rejuvenated at the prospect of what can be added to your Autumn bucket list. Let’s start to get excited about Autumn.

Halloween

Halloween is something that we celebrate on the 31st October, so it isn’t too long now before the fright night of the year is upon us. While it can be seen as a child’s celebration, where they dress up and knock on doors wanting sweets and treats, many of us adults can still get in on the action. First, you could consider having a Halloween party of your own. Encouraging your guests to dress up and get involved in the action. You could go all out with the party decorations. Maybe having a signature scary cocktail and dressing up your home and the food to look the part. Pinterest has some amazing suggestions, just click here for more inspiration https://www.pinterest.co.uk/explore/halloween-party-ideas/.

Perhaps you don’t like having parties, but celebrating Halloween is still something you could do. You could light a Halloween inspired candle, Yankee Candle have a great selection and put on a scary movie. Get yourself some snacks and enjoy some time with friends or a loved one. Halloween is often something that might be celebrated in the workplace as well, so prepare to start looking for some costume options, even if it isn’t your scene.

Some people go all out when it comes to decorating their home. They like the idea of decorative pumpkins to place on display, maybe adding an autumn wreath to the front door, or just simply changing some of the everyday items you use like your dinner set or coffee mugs.

Pumpkins are associated with Autumn and also Halloween so you may start to see an influx of them in the shops now we are officially in the season. So pumpkin carving maybe an activity to get involved in. If you have children, it’s a great family activity, but it can also be done as a decorative feature by yourself. You don’t have to be mega creative, but there some out of this world carvings that have been done in the past, think Harry Potter inspired or even Donald Trump. This website has more here. Plus there are some great ideas to make use of the flesh. You could make an amazing pumpkin soup and even roast the seeds to make a fantastic and healthy snack.

Autumn warm drinks

Now comes something we can all get excited about. Autumn warm drinks. We all know that the Autumn season has officially started when some of the most well-known coffee shops start serving the famous pumpkin spiced latte. But if coffee isn’t your thing, rest assured, there always seems to be some amazing drinks on the menu. Think white hot chocolates, black forest inspired drinks and even salted caramel being added to certain options. Autumn drinks are a great way to feel all festive, especially as those warm drinks really get you in the mood for the colder weather to come.

A new wardrobe

Now is the time to start thinking about your wardrobe. You may be said to say goodbye to those racer back dresses and denim shorts. Perhaps even wanting to keep certain shoe string tops in your wardrobe, just incase. But Autumn is a great season to be inspired with your clothing choices. Skinny jeans and cosy knits teamed with ankle boots. Jumper dresses and tights, and even autumnal maxi dresses and things for occasions. Thankfully websites like https://www.lotusboutique.com/collections/dresses have an array of choices available. Autumn doesn’t mean that you will now be living in your comfortable clothes, people use this time of the year as the perfect backdrops for weddings and party celebrations. So don’t be alarmed if you have a few invitations for these sorts of events looming. While it certainly means you can be a little more comfortable with your fashion choices, and cover up a little more, you can still be amazingly stylish in Autumn wear.

autumn country walks

Getting out for country walks

I know the weather maybe getting a little colder and the air feels a little fresher, but this shouldn’t stop you putting on your coat, scarf and hat and heading out for country walks. The countryside is simply beautiful at this time of year. All of the colours of the fallen leaves that feel crunchy and crisp under your feet. If you have a dog, it is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and be a little more active. You may feel like it is more of a chore to do this, but it can certainly help you keep up with an active lifestyle.

Go apple picking or foraging for ingredients

Autumn is the time of year where so many gorgeous ingredients are available completely free, if you know where to look. Blackberries grow on bushes and apples are growing on the trees in orchards. There are plenty of pick your own farms also available to attend, where you can pick what you like and pay for what you have at the end. This is an excellent way of getting fantastic ingredients at a low price. Apple and blackberry pie is often a favourite at the time of year, but don’t forget to take advantage of some of the other amazing ingredients in season such as savoy cabbage, asparagus, and cauliflower.

Tick off those home chores

Autumn is a great time of year for getting organised. Many people associate that with Spring, but Autumn is also an ideal time to do it. There are often things we like to avoid if we can, such as cleaning out the gutters or preparing your home for colder weather. But this time of year is the ideal time to get those chores ticked off that list once and for all. Allowing you to enter into Winter, and the festive period, safe in the knowledge that you can enjoy it.

Christmas decoration

Christmas is in sight

While it isn’t something people like mentioned at this time of year, as people think it is too early, but Autumn means that Christmas is coming very soon. Christmas is a time of year where people come together and spend quality time with friends and family. So right now is the ideal time to start thinking about the festive season and getting ahead with things like shopping and food preparation. Yes, that is right, you could cook your Christmas cake right now ready for the big day. There are always things you could be doing to prepare for the festive period, for example, if you are one of those people that likes to send out family pictures, now is the ideal time to get it taken ready for your holiday greeting card. Better still, start writing those cards, so there is no mad dash. You might find preparing now saves you a little time and money when the festive period arrives. It will be sooner than you think.

I hope this has given you some idea on what you can do in Autumn.
