Buying bedsheets can be a bit confusing, especially when you are faced with so many choices. We are here to simplify the process for you. Before you buy your next set of sheets, read this.
What is the first thing you look for when shopping for bedsheets? Is it the thread count or the fabric, or something else? Want to know the key things to look for when buying sheets?

Why are bedsheets so important?
Just imagine falling onto a bed with no sheets, or one that has particles of sand in it? Yeah, you don’t need to be the pea princess to know that you won’t be getting much sleep. Bedsheets are important because they form a barrier between you and your mattress.
Of course, we probably don’t appreciate this as much as during the hot season. Imagine having to lay back down on a dirty, sweat drenched mattress. Not a particularly pleasant thought. It’s easier to wash your sheets regularly and better for your hygiene and health.
Choose your fabric
Bedsheets come in different kinds of fabrics. There are organic fabrics like bamboo and tencel (a fabric made from the pulp of the eucalyptus tree). Then there’s satin, cotton and even silk. While some fabrics are cool on the body, others are warmer. But, if you want a fabric that feel soft and lets your body breathe, go for cotton.
However, if you live in colder climes, you might want to go for warmer fabric, like flannel. And if you are looking for the ultimate luxury and sheer indulgence, then try silk sheets. Just be warned that they are on the high end and caring for them is not easy either. There are many more fabrics you can choose and the Spruce has a cool guide here.
If you are going with cotton sheets, then long staple fabric gives you higher quality.

The thread count doesn’t really matter
It sounds strange to hear that, right? Almost blasphemous, really. We’ve heard a lot about the luxuriousness of high thread count bedsheets. But for the most part, that’s just hype. Don’t get us wrong, thread count is great, but it’s definitely not as important the quality of the fibre.
Pick the weave carefully
Okay, so the weave is basically the way the fibres are woven together. The weave of the bedsheet is important if you want comfortable sheets. They affect the way the sheets feel, how long they last and the cost of the bedsheets.
There are different types of weaves, but the most common are plain and sateen weaves. Plain weaves are okay, but if you are looking for extra soft fabric, go for the sateen.

The finish matters
So, it’s simple. Lots of manufacturers use chemicals to treat their bedsheets. This means that the sheets are usually wrinkle-free. The downside is that well; they were treated with chemicals.
However, these days many people are trying to avoid exposure to chemicals and prefer to go for organic sheets.
Basically, organic cotton sheets use what is known as ‘pure finish’ which has no chemicals. They get wrinkled easily.
Of course, this is totally a personal choice. It’s good to know so that you can look out for what you want when next you go shopping for bedsheets.
Always wash your bedsheets before using
Generally, it is a good idea to wash your sheets before you use them. This is for two reasons. First, to reduce any residue from chemicals. And second, to get a softer, more comfortable feel. And trust us, you want that softness and comfort for a good night’s sleep.

Colour coding
To be honest, this is not a huge factor when it comes to the quality of the sheets. However, we all know that the next time you pick up bedsheets from the store, you’ll think about the colours. Besides, bedsheets are a great way to create a colour blend in your bedroom décor. So, go for colours that make you happy.
Again, you can use coloured sheets to update the way your bedroom looks. Find out how.
