A change in season means a change in your beauty routine, and if you haven’t already now is the perfect time to update your makeup bag. When it’s warm outside, you’ll want a lighter and fresher look, so there are a few things to switch out to achieve this. Here’s what you need in your makeup bag this spring/ summer!

Makeup tips for spring

Your Skincare Routine

Because each season presents different challenges when it comes to spring, your skincare routine should reflect this. Right now you might still be battling dry winter skin from the past few months, if so a hydrating moisturizer for dry skin in the evenings is essential. In the mornings, go with something lighter which sits well under makeup. The changing weather can also cause dry lips, and so a good lip balm is essential. Work out what issues you’re currently experiencing with your skin and then find products to combat this. Any makeup will apply far more easily over good skin, so this is a step to get right.

Makeup and moisturizers

A Light Foundation

Over the spring, a light and fresh look is key. Therefore you’ll want to ditch your heavy, matte foundations out for something a little more sheer. You could go with a dewy foundation or BB cream, a loose mineral powder or a powder foundation. These won’t be heavy on the skin but will still provide you with a bit of coverage. If you have redness or blemishes, use a concealer on just these areas instead of using a thicker foundation all over.

Blush and Bronzer

To add life and warmth to your complexion, choose a blush and bronzer that suits your skin tone. You don’t need to add layers of contour for a light spring look, but a dab of bronzer on a big brush around the perimeter of your face will give you a bronzed glow. A touch of cream blush on the apples of the cheeks will give you a dewy and healthy appearance. If you choose an illuminating blush, you kill two birds with one stone and highlight at the same time.

Makeup tips and eye shadow

Neutral Eyeshadow

A touch of taupe eyeshadow in the crease of the eye and under the lower lash line helps to bring definition to the eyes without looking too full on. A shimmering champagne or light gold shade on the lid too looks pretty for spring. If you use a white eyeshadow on the waterline, you’ll make your eyes look bigger and more wide awake. If you want to amp it up for evening, use a darker brown on the outer corner of the eye and under the lower lash line, and add black kohl liner and a cat flick with an eyeliner pen.

Spring makeup tips

Lipstick
Ditch the bold lipsticks, spring is all about light and fresh colors. Light pinks, corals, and nudes are all perfect for this time of year. If you work out whether you have a warm or cool colored complexion, you’ll find it easier to find lip products to suit you. Alternatively, you could go with a stain, a jumbo lip crayon or a simple gloss.
