According to some Twitter users, GoFundMe is refunding money paid by donors for the #SaveMayowa campaign last year.

Guess we still remember late Mayowa Ahmed who was down with Stage Four Ovarian cancer and needed funds to travel abroad. A campaign was setup on her behalf called “#SaveMayowa” campaign, the aim was to gather funds for Mayowa to fly her abroad for proper and urgent healthcare.

The campaign generated series of controversy, rumor was going round that the family of the lady was trying to defraud unsuspecting donors after they got more than what was initially requested for.

Unfortunately, Mayowa did not make it as she passed away in August.

Donors are reporting that GoFundMe, the platform through which they made the donations, are refunding their money.
