Mo Abudu

Today we celebrate the birthday of a woman who has stood out as an icon and role model to women in Nigeria and on the continent, Mo Abudu. This woman wears so many hats that we barely know where to begin. In 2013 she launched Ebony Life TV, which was described as Africaโ€™s first Global Black Multi-Broadcast Entertainment Network.

Before ELTV though, she founded and ran Vic Lawrence & Associates (VLA) which is a human resource development company. She’s also a Venture Capitalist and Entrepreneur and for several years, was the host of the popular talk show, Moments with MO. She is an inspiration and a fuel to our belief in an equal opportunity Africa.

She has shown us that there’s truth behind Gloria Steinem’s saying that “power can be taken, but not given. The process of the taking is empowerment in itself.” Mo grabbed on with both hands and hasn’t let go. Nigerian women need to take power. We don’t need to take it from anyone, but we do need to take it within ourselves for we have inside of us, the capacity for change. We can set records, break records, create new norms…we can do whatever we set our mind to.

There is a reason why Mo’s favourite saying is “If you can think it, you can do it.” The embodiment of courage and determination, Mo has paved the path for women in Africa and has shown that excelling in life is not a matter of gender, but an eclectic mix of big dreams, persistence and sheer hard work.

We are extremely proud of this woman.

Happy Birthday to an icon!
