Award winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is the new face of Boots No7 makeup and the first campaign will be launching on Friday. This was published on Vogue‘s website only a couple of days ago. We are not surprised as Chimamanda is an infinitely stylish woman. A woman who is comfortable in her own skin and not afraid of speaking out for what she believes in, she is a beauty icon in a generation where the strength of a beautiful woman is often downplayed in favour of her physical attributes.
As well as being a novelist, Ms Adichie is also a feminist and her TED talks have had global reach and impact on women and men alike. Parts of one of her talks was used in a Beyonce video and also featured on T-shirts by Maria Grazia’s debut Dior show.
Boots No7 Campaign
Chimamanda is featured in Vogue’s November 2016 Real Issue and speaking of the campaign, she said:
“I think much of beauty advertising relies on a false premise – that women need to be treated in an infantile way, given a ‘fantasy’ to aspire to… Real women are already inspired by other real women, so perhaps beauty advertising needs to get on board.”
Boots, is clearly getting on board, and we heartily approve of their choice.
Chimamanda on Makeup
In a statement, Chimamanda said:
“I love make-up and its wonderful possibilities for temporary transformation. And I also love my face after I wash it all off…There is something exquisitely enjoyable about seeing yourself with a self-made new look. And for me that look is deeply personal. It isn’t about what is in fashion or what the rules are supposed to be. It’s about what I like. What makes me want to smile when I look in the mirror. What makes me feel slightly better on a dull day. What makes me comfortable.”
You see, we are tired of some random guy in front of a computer somewhere in the world telling us, dictating to us really, how we are supposed to look. Like Chimamanda said, “makeup isn’t anything, it’s just makeup.” A woman should be free to use makeup or not, as she chooses and also to experiment with what makes her feel good, not what she is told is trending. So we are really rooting for our Chimamanda and we’re glad that Boots took this step.
According to Kristof Neirynck, the vice president of skincare and global brands for Walgreens Boots Alliance, “Chimamanda was the perfect choice for us, as not only is she an inspirational woman, we share the same philosophy about beauty.”
We love Chimamanda. We love her sense of style and fashion; how outspoken and unafraid she is…that woman is fierce! We’re excited for her and wish her greater things ahead.
