I’m always experimenting with homemade beauty products, particularly facial masks and scrubs. Just the other day I tried my hand at a turmeric and aloe vera mask and I really loved the effect. (I shared my experience here). I’ve discovered a lovely coffee and coconut oil scrub and since I have both ingredients at home, I decided to give it a try.

I love coffee. Almost anyone who knows me knows that about me. I love the rich aroma of a well made cup of coffee and the caffeine boost I get from it. But I recently discovered something even more amazing about this magic bean; it is wonderful for the skin too.

Benefits of Coffee on the Skin

Coffee is rich in antioxidants, which makes it great for protecting your skin from UV rays. There’s been a lot of research on the benefits of coffee to the skin and it has been proven that applying it on your skin provides a layer, which keeps your skin protected from harmful radiation

Beyond that, coffee has skin tightening properties and is used in many anti-aging creams and potions. It is great for exfoliating your skin, for skin brightening and has so many other benefits which you can read about here.

Benefits of Coconut Oil on the Skin

We have dedicated a lot of posts to documenting the benefits of coconut oil. It is a great addition to your beauty regime. I’m a huge fan of coconut oil and you can always find some in my house (almost as much as coffee). Coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer and what I love about it is the non-greasy effect. It also has high UV protection properties, which is exactly what you need when you go out in the sun.

So back to the coffee and coconut oil scrub… It’s like having all your favourite things in one delicious mix. I’ll share the recipe below and tell you my experience with it.

Coffee and Coconut Oil Scrub

Ingredients:

– One tablespoon of coffee grounds (or a single nescafe sachet)

– One teaspoon of coconut oil

* I added a teaspoon of sea salt to mine, but this is completely optional.

Preparation:

Mix all the ingredients together in a clean bowl. I used a teacup so really, use whatever works for you as long as it’s clean.

Next take the coffee and coconut oil mix and gently rub over your face using the tips of your finger. If you are trying to fight dark circles beneath your eyes, then use your fourth finger because it will apply the least pressure.

Leave the mix on your face for 15 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.

Results

The result was lovely. Rubbing it on my skin felt so good and the smell was amazing. When I rinsed off the mix, it left my face feeling soft, smooth and velvety. Then I looked in the mirror and I could see that my skin was noticeably looking brighter and smoother.

I’ll definitely be trying this again.
