Nigerian singer and public sweetheart Tiwa Savage features in an exclusive interview in the latest issue of Elle South Africa. The singer shared a page from the magazine on her Instagram page.

In it, the star opens up about her gone tomboy days, her potential music deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation and how her private life became a hashtag and trending topic. Predictably, on that matter, the public split into three groups – Team A, Team B and the politically correct.

She cites the decision to expose her private life “too much” as her biggest regret

My biggest failure was exposing my private life too much. There will always be speculation, but by addressing it you are adding more fuel to the fire. I now choose not to address anything.”

Speaking on her deal with Roc Nation, the mother of one says they are just smoothening a few things out – signing on the dotted ends

“We are finalizing the details with his company, and it is an amazing opportunity for any artist, particularly a woman, because traditionally such global parts have largely been enjoyed by the male artists.” She adds “I’m so honored it has happened to me. And while it may mean, as a woman, I need to work 10 times harder to make things happen, I am fine with that. My approach is: do what it takes”.

It’s going to be a new era when women stop saying the words “especially for a woman” in their achievement speech.
