There is this strange belief among the urban young people that you need to be in a densely populated city before you can succeed as an entrepreneur. Our guest today proves that is a myth. Ochanya Azer of Such Sense, is a wife and Mom, a career woman and an entrepreneur. She is a true Naija Housewife. Read her interview below.

Could you tell us a little about you?

My name is Ochanya Azer and I am from Benue State in Nigeria. I am the first child in a family of three. I had my Primary and Secondary education in Benue State, and proceeded to University of Jos in Plateau State for a B.Sc in Biochemistry.

Tell us about your business?

I am into an uplifting business that leverages contacts that we have to make money. As humans, we are always making unassuming comments that influence the purchase and life decisions of others. An example is recommending a wonderful cream or soap to another person when they comment positively on your skin tone and other stuff for your kids and family members. We usually don’t get recognized for this efforts and therefore don’t get more than a verbal thank you. In recognition of this great word of mouth advert by consumers of products, certain companies decided to reward such consumers and I am glad to be a partner with one of such great companies!

How did you get involved in this business?

I am glad to give a testimony about a wonderful friend who casually invited me to listen to the opportunity. After listening , I could not believe that a simple solution as this could have changed my life. I immediately joined up.

Did you always know that you were going to be an entrepreneur or did you become one because of where you found yourself (your circumstances)?

I wanted to do something for myself but sincerely, the circumstances I found myself made me realize that it is not just a luxury but a necessity for me to become an entrepreneur and a source of financial breakthrough for others too. I kept praying and seeking for a job for years. I worked briefly for about a tear and after that, I kept hoping for a long while. I finally was employed by an international company and that is when I realized that the solution is not just in getting a job. It may be a temporal relief but the stress, sacrifices and the end implications were an eye opener for me and I realized that I could not honestly survive like that. I still work but I am happier now because I have an alternative and I can soon make choices that are not under duress.

There are many network marketers promoting the same products you do; what makes you stand out?

There are many quite okay but I realized some unique features in the opportunity I am offering that made it stand out for me. The most special one was that I did not need to sell anything! It can be very difficult to sell products and I frankly could not afford the time to go about trying to sell and I also avoided the risk of being owed money on installmental payments. The income is received on the items you purchase for personal use or give as gifts also.

This opportunity also gives you a chance to improve on so many aspects of your life including your health, beauty , finances and also your relationships and outlook in life. You meet quality persons from all over the world who are interested in improving your opportunities and quality training is constantly given to guide you to your next level in life. Its simply life changing. We have over 320 different products to use and earn money from.

How do your products impact on the everyday lives of your customers?

A wide range of quality natural products ranging from personal care items like tooth gel, bathing soap, deodorant body creams etc . the tooth gel is completely fluoride free and therefore helps you overcome the associated risks recently discovered with the use of fluoride based tooth pastes. Fluoride is banned in so many countries at the moment due to this.

The deodorant is also made from natural ingredients mainly soothing aloe vera and can be used immediately after shaving. This deodorant is zirconium and aluminuim free. These substances found in almost every deodorant and antiperspirant spray has been implicated in incidences of breast cancer. There is a wonderful shampoo and conditioner range for great hair. A full range of natural based cosmetics from foundations to powder, to cleanser to lipsticks and eye shadows and toners too. There are aloe drinks and supplements for specific conditions like arthritis, high blood pressure, urinary tract cleansing, anti oxidant flushing to reduce cancer risks and anti-ageing qualities.

There is a wonderful natural weight management kit that shows results in less than two weeks and has no recorded side effects till date. Because the main ingredient is stabilized Aloe vera and other natural herbs. The jelly is working wonders on burns, piles, and skin challenges. The advantages are too numerous to cover completely. From infants to the elderly, everyone enjoys improvement from use of daily products.

Doing business in Nigeria is challenging for anybody. What are some of the challenges you have faced and how did you overcome them (if you have)?

The main challenge of having your finances tied up in a traditional business of buying and selling was overcome with the strategy of being paid when you buy from the company. This means that whether you chose to use it or sell it, you still get paid. I also can earn money from people who are miles away from where I reside without having to them sell products. All they need to do is buy and we both get paid by the company. Warehouses for the products are available in many cities and where they are not available, you can buy online and have the goods delivered to your doorstep directly. You don’t need to deal with disappointment from retailers.

Many people complain that MLM does not work; has it worked for you and if it has, what did you do to make yours successful?

I would have thought so too but thank God I had mentors to guide me all the way. As with most things in life, if you have a successful person willing to hold your hand and guide you, most challenges can be overcome. If you follow the instructions diligently, you will succeed despite any challenge.

Who are your ideal clients?

Ideal clients are anyone who has a need to improve health, beauty, wealth and social interactions. Anyone who realizes that they may need a change in certain aspects of their lives. All that is required of you is determination to learn the act of success from professionals. No extreme academic requirements, no specialized skills. Just a determination to change your situation.

Hands in Marriage

How and where did you meet your husband?

I met my prince charming years back when we were still university students. As unlikely as it seemed, we were not in the same school – he was at Benue state University while I was at University of Jos – but rather met in a bus on our way back to Benue state from Jos. Specifically at Plateau riders park. He had just spent a holiday in Jos and I was on my way back home after rounding up exams. It was an interesting meeting which saw us starting out as friends with wonderful long discussions that seemed to go on and on. What can I say? A year later, things changed from casual friends to people deeply in love. Still can’t imagine life without my spice!

How supportive has he been of your entrepreneurial pursuits?

He has been really supportive. He encourages my drive always and keeps hope alive with me. The part he admires most is the fact that the business helps me to uplift others too which has always been a life dream for me.

How do you keep a healthy balance between your work and your family?

Being a wife is a job. Being a mother is another different department; and then having to contribute to bringing bread to the table? That is a really challenging situation. One can keep doing it and survive but most people will agree with me that you will realize that you are fading away fast. If there is a way to get even a little bit of relief why would you not want to try it. Most of us work to earn some money right? If you can earn money without sacrificing the time and love of your family I believe you would jump at the opportunity. This business has given me a chance to spend more time taking care of my family and I am so glad. I have been able to cut back on the overtime work just to get additional peanuts.

Take us through a typical day in your life.

I still go to work every day as a customer care / HR person. I can now afford to take my one hour break entitlement and also close by 5.30pm as compared to 7.30-8.20pm formally all to get some extra few hundreds. I run my business at anytime of the day without any interruption of my official duties using my phone except when I am sleeping. Even when I sleep I may be earning money because somebody connected to me is buying their everyday product. Its exciting!

What advice do you have for women out there who have tried network marketing without success?

I will like to advice that they give it another shot. They may have had a wrong approach to it. If you fall while learning to ride a bike my advice would be to try again. With the right information and guidance you can do it. I thought it was not for real or something dubious until I got the complete information. As they say, knowledge is power.

How do we join and start selling these products?

It’s simple, indicate your interest by telling me your location and I will give you a real life contact in the area to guide you step by step. You will need to get ready with a financial commitment of between N62,000 to N150,000 to start up and earn in the next month. A ready heart to learn and apply the strategy you are taught.

Do you have anything to say to us?

I would like to commend your mode of operation and the initiative to extend a way out for women to air their views and promote themselves. The challenges that womenfolk face are enormous and it is great to find an initiative that seeks to relieve this burden in any measure possible. Keep up the good work and I wish you and all honest ladies good success.
