Dandruff; those white, flaky things on the scalp that itch like crazy! They are designed to make sure that no hairstyle you do ever lasts. By the time you have scratched the life out of your scalp, the hair you braided only last week will start looking like it’s 3 months old. So what causes dandruff anyway?
Causes
Well, there are many reasons why you might be experiencing dandruff. We’ll share the common reasons according to the Mayo Clinic’s website:
- Dry skin
- Irritated, oily skin (seborrheic dermatitis)
- Not shampooing often enough
- Other skin conditions
- A yeast-like fungus (malassezia)
- Sensitivity to hair care products (contact dermatitis)
Read the details of each cause here.
Natural Cures
These are cures we just discovered and we would like to share them with you.
Apple Cider
This could also be labelled, Apple Vinegar. Take a cap-full and mix with a cup of water. Place this in a bottle which has a spray nozzle and spray over your hair. Make sure it soaks up your hair and gets to your scalp. Leave it for a few minutes. Then wash the hair. Do this as often as you can – everyday if possible.
Teatree Oil
Mix a few drops of teatree oil with a carrier oil like cocunut oil or olive oil. Partition your hair into small portions and rub on the scalp. You could also add a drop or two of peppermint oil. Do this once a week.
You need to be patient and give it a month or two before you are completely rid of dandruff.
