The CEO of House of Tara International, Tara Fela-Durotoye was recently featured in Bloomberg Africa TV’s Africa Women to Watch: Beauty. It is amazing when you think of all she’s achieved, to learn that House of Tara was set up with less than Twenty Thousand Naira.
This segment features women across the continent who are game changers in the beauty industry and every story told here is incredibly inspiring. We have brought you stories of women who have started their entrepreneurial journey from almost nothing and built up something to be proud of and this video just shows how a determined woman can scale up and compete in a market that seems saturated.

The beauty market in Nigeria and Africa as a whole is huge, but it is mostly flooded with foreign products. These are gradually changing the game. They are doing business ethically, focusing on eco-friendly, but more importantly, their products are Africa friendly.
Renichia Droganis, the founder of Africology is a single mother with 4 children and she started her business from her kitchen. That business has grown to several million dollars and it was through sheer hard work. One of the things which helped her she said was having the courage to say yes. She never turned down an assignment even if she thought she couldn’t handle it; she would take the order and made sure she delivered. That is simply inspirational. Too often we allow our fears to keep us from growing and we prefer to stay in our comfort zone. But if you want to grow as a business person and indeed as a human being, you need to constantly challenge yourself.

As usual, she was asked about balancing her life with business and four children and her reply was similar to that of Ronda Rhimes; she said
At the beginning there’s no balance and it’s all about sacrifice…something has to go until you get to the place where you can achieve balance
The other woman mentioned was Claire Eluka and you have to listen to her story. We are proud that there are so many women to look up to on the continent.
