When Women Turn to Pipeline Vandals

Iyabo Dunyinle and Patience Pemi were arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos for vandalism and theft of petroleum products, a crime took place on the 9th of November by 5 a.m. They are standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on the alleged offence of which they have pleaded not guilty to the offence. Following an oral application for bail by their counsel, Mr. Yemi Ajao, the trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million each, with one surety each in like sum. The case has however been adjourned to March 11, 2015 for trial.

According to Mr. Daniel Apochi, the prosecutor:

“the accused were apprehended by the police on a tip off, and about 11, 000 litres of petrol was recovered from the accused, which they allegedly extracted from a vandalised pipeline in the locality, for illegal sale”.
