Why are we writing about beauty masks on a Monday? Well, we believe that any day is the perfect day for a beauty treatment, especially when it’s one you can do yourself, like this Aloe Vera and Turmeric mask.

Most of us already know the wonder plant that is Aloe Vera, but what about Turmeric?
This weekend we got interested in this herb and it’s hard to believe that something that is such a constant in our kitchens is such a super food with lots of health benefits.
In case you’re wondering why we’re raving at all, we’ll take a few moments to tell you about turmeric (you could also check this great infographic on turmeric).

What is Turmeric
This is a spice that dates back to more than 4000 years and was originally traced to India.
It grows in a root-like form, almost like ginger.
Turmeric is bright yellow or orange and is found in most curry mixtures. It’s what gives curry powder that bright yellow or orange colour.
Why a Turmeric Mask?
That’s a really good question. This amazing spice has tons of benefits when taken as food. There are also numerous benefits when you use it topically on the skin.
It is used to clear acne, to dry out oily skin, for dry skin; has anti-aging properties, treats stretch marks, soothes burns, is anti-inflammatory…we could go on.
Turmeric is that secret goodness you’ve been searching for all this while and we love how affordable and accessible it is. You can get turmeric in almost any grocery store.

Aloe Vera and Turmeric
We decided to try an Aloe Vera and Turmeric mask, not because of any particular reason but mostly because we had those ingredients on hand.
What you’ll need:
a dish
a spoon or spatula for mixing
Ingredients:
Aloe Vera Plant
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
Method:
Cut a small portion of the Aloe Vera plant, open it up and using the spatula, scoop out the gel into your dish.
Add the turmeric and mix.
Gently apply all over your face, carefully avoiding the eye area.
Leave for 5 – 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Tip 1: Add lemon to create a skin lightening mask.
Tip 2: You can add honey, coconut oil or even yogurt to create a night cream.

Our Results
We were left with skin that felt smoother and looked brighter. It was amazing how fast the results were. The face was also less oily, which was a huge plus.
