Emefiele Calls for Calm as Naira, Stocks Sustain Decline

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele yesterday at the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) said there is no need for panic over the recent depreciation of the naira against the dollar, he went ahead to reassure investors that the central bank will continue to meet legitimate foreign exchange demand.

He said the central bank was doing everything within its power to ensure price stability of the naira and reassured that several actions are being  put in  place  that the monetary and fiscal authorities would kick in as we attain various levels in the price of crude.

FG Reiterates Commitment to Ban Fertiliser Importation

Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Minister of National Planning Commission (NPC) has said the federal government will soon introduce a policy that will ensure that products, which the country has comparative advantage to produce, particularly fertiliser, are not imported into the country.

He said the government is keen on boosting the agricultural sector in the rural area and soon the importation of products will be stop including fertilizer. He said this while speaking in Kaduna State when he visited the Super Phosphate Fertiliser and Chemicals Limited, in continuation of his monitoring tour of privatised companies under the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE),

FG advises girls to pursue career in ICT

 

Technical Assistant (Research), Olufunke Baruwa  a representative of the Minister of Communication Technology said the Federal Government has begun collaboration with Huawei, an information and communication technology solutions provider, to train 1,000 girls in ICT.

She made this known at the inauguration of the ICT Club of the Pyramid of Excellence Schools in Abuja, she said it is important to empower female pupils with basic ICT skills with a view to improving their employment chances, the initiative tagged “Huawei 1,000 MCT/Girls ICT Training programme,” is the brainchild of the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology and the programme would reduce the imbalance in  ICT adoption between men and women in the country.

She also added, “The ICT sector is emerging as the fastest growing sector in Nigeria, recording a 30 per cent year-on-year growth with the potential to significantly contribute to increasing the social welfare of men and women in the future.

Bar manager sets attendant ablaze for stealing N1, 500

The Ogun State Police Command is currently in search of a bar manager, Mr. Bidemi Shittu, who allegedly set ablaze his 13-year-old attendant, Ezekiel Emmanuel.

According to the reports byPUNCH Metro, the manager took the action because the teenager reportedly stole N1,500 from him. the incident happened in the Akoka area of Ibafo, Ogun State, on Monday, February 9.

Emmanuel  was rushed to a private hospital in the area where he was initially treated before he was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, the next day.

The matter was reported to the Ibafo Police Division, and the policemen sealed off the bar.
